Their job as TimeRiders is to prevent these events from happening, essentially ‘fixing’ history. Now instead they are consigned to riding through time, detecting ripples that may affect events in history and cause the world we know today to be a very different place. The TimeRiders books themselves focus on three teenagers, all of whom were whisked away from inevitable deaths- Sal should have died in a house fire, Maddie in a plane crash and Liam on the Titanic. Indeed, this book captures ancient Rome in all of its glory- the squalor and the decadence. That has been pretty tough to stick to, especially since little secrets have been continually divulged since the start of the series that I’ve been wanting to know more about, and this one sounded so fun, too- focusing on one of my favourite periods in history: Ancient Rome. After loving them all so far, I was determined that I wouldn’t just race my way through them (like I did the Gone series and others) and would instead savour them, rationing them out, if you will. I started reading the TimeRiders books last year after hearing great things about them. The first book marked the end of the notable drought of new Star Wars material during a four-year period from the tenth anniversary of the original 1977 film's release to the release of Heir to the Empire in 1991. The Thrawn trilogy, also known as the Heir to the Empire trilogy, is a trilogy of novels set in the Star Wars universe, written by Timothy Zahn between 19. As a result, Easter becomes a catalyst for him to reexamine the things he takes for granted about his home country, ultimately demonstrating how necessary it is for people to remain open-minded. What’s more, he’s also forced to more closely consider his own culture. In turn, Sedaris recognizes that French culture is even more foreign to him than he originally thought. However, his teacher turns this question back on him, asking how a rabbit would do this. This makes little sense to Sedaris, who asks how a bell could possibly know where to take the chocolate. Hearing this, his French teacher corrects him, saying that the French version of the story is that a bell flies in from Rome to deliver the chocolate. When one of Sedaris’s foreign classmates asks the class to tell her about Easter, Sedaris explains that the Easter Bunny delivers chocolate to children. When Sedaris discovers that French people have different Easter traditions than Americans do, Easter becomes a representation of the ways in which cultures vary from each other even when they seem fairly similar.
